Nature's Sunshine Review (2026): Is Nature's Sunshine Worth Joining?

Nature's Sunshine is one of the oldest names in herbal supplements. If your parents or grandparents took herbs in capsules, there's a decent chance some came from this company.

It also offers a free way to earn on customers only, which I explain below. This Nature's Sunshine review covers who owns the company, its real sales numbers, the three ways to earn under its April 2026 plan, its 2009 SEC case, and whether I'd join.

Quick answer: Nature's Sunshine Products is a Utah supplement company founded in 1972. It went public in 1978 and trades on the Nasdaq as NATR. It reported $480.1 million in net sales for 2025. Under its 2026 plan, a free Wellness Partner earns 15% to 30% on customers they refer, and Consultants earn on up to five levels.

I've been inside 8 network marketing companies since 2004, and I always start with the company's own words. For Nature's Sunshine, I read its website, its 2026 Compensation and Customer Sharing Plan, its 2025 and Q2 2026 earnings releases, and the SEC's 2009 litigation release. You can browse every company I've reviewed on one page.

What Is Nature's Sunshine?

Nature's Sunshine sells herbal supplements and other nutrition products. Its own history starts in 1972, when Gene and Kristine Hughes began putting herbs into capsules, starting with capsicum (cayenne pepper). The company says, "As the first to encapsulate herbs, Gene and Kristine made accessing Earth's most powerful plants more convenient."

The company says its manufacturing facility is 100% powered by solar energy. Wikipedia places that facility in Spanish Fork, Utah. You can compare Nature's Sunshine with other companies in the full MLM company directory.

Who's Behind Nature's Sunshine?

The founders were Gene and Kristine Hughes. Today, the CEO is Ken Romanzi, who the company says "brings over 40 years of experience in the consumer packaged goods industry."

Because Nature's Sunshine is public, the answer to "who owns it" is simple: its shareholders. That also means it has to publish its numbers.

The Numbers

From the company's earnings releases:

  • 2025: net sales were up 5.7% to $480.1 million, and net income attributable to common shareholders was $19.5 million
  • Q4 2025: new customers in its Digital channels grew 98% from a year earlier
  • Q2 2026: net sales were $117.0 million, up 2%. Citing a stronger dollar and softness in China, the company cut its full-year 2026 sales guidance to $490 to $500 million, from $500 to $515 million

That's a steady, profitable company. It isn't shrinking, but it isn't growing fast either.

What Nature's Sunshine Sells

The catalog is mostly herbal supplements, plus products like liquid chlorophyll. Two best-known examples, with prices from naturessunshine.com on October 14, 2026:

  • Liquid Chlorophyll Extra Strength, 16 oz: $29.95, on sale for $24.95, or $18.71 with Subscribe and Save
  • Lymphatic Drainage, 2 oz: $37.95, or $28.45 with Subscribe and Save

The company describes Lymphatic Drainage as supporting "healthy lymphatic flow within your body." That's its claim, not mine. I don't make health claims about supplements.

How the 2026 Compensation Plan Works

Nature's Sunshine's US plan was updated in April 2026. It says the company "offers three different earning opportunities":

1. Customers. Customers earn 15% Referral Rewards, paid as product credit, when friends they refer place orders.

2. Wellness Partners. Signing up is "easy, fast and free." Wellness Partners earn cash on the customers they personally refer, at a rate set by total monthly sales:

Total Monthly SalesCommission Rate
$0 to $999.9915%
$1,000 to $2,499.9920%
$2,500 to $9,999.9925%
$10,000 and up30%

3. Consultants. Consultants can earn up to 30% in commissions, plus commissions on up to five downline levels. To become one, you must accept the membership agreement and "must purchase a welcome kit."

To stay active, you need to place an order or refer someone at least once every 90 days.

One thing to watch: the company's "share with network" page still says Consultants "Earn Up to 25% sales commission," while the April 2026 plan says up to 30%. Go by the plan document, and ask your sponsor which one applies to you.

Is Nature's Sunshine an MLM?

For Consultants, yes. Commissions on five downline levels is a classic multi-level structure, and Wikipedia describes the company as using "a multi-level marketing business model."

The Wellness Partner path is different. You don't buy a kit, and you're paid only on customers you personally refer. That's much closer to an affiliate program than an MLM.

The 2009 SEC Case

This is the case behind most "Nature's Sunshine lawsuit" searches. On July 31, 2009, the SEC charged Nature's Sunshine under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

  • What happened: per the SEC, the Brazilian subsidiary made cash payments in 2000 and 2001 to customs officials "to import product into that country," then bought false documentation to cover the payments
  • The result: the company agreed to pay a $600,000 civil penalty. Its CEO at the time, Douglas Faggioli, and former CFO Craig Huff each agreed to pay $25,000 as "control persons"
  • No admission: all three settled "without admitting or denying the allegations"

That was over 15 years ago, and it was about books and records abroad, not about the product or the opportunity. But it belongs in an honest review.

What Nature's Sunshine's Social Media Shows

For a 54-year-old company, its biggest audience is on TikTok. YouTube is small and posts rarely.

The Good: What Nature's Sunshine Gets Right

  • A long, public track record. 54 years, and public numbers every quarter.
  • A free way to earn. Wellness Partners pay nothing to start.
  • Profitable. $19.5 million in 2025 net income attributable to shareholders.
  • A real digital push. Q4 2025 Digital new customers grew 98%.
  • A clear plan document. Rates and tiers are published.

The Concerns: What You Need to Know

  • No income disclosure that I could find. I couldn't find one on the Consultant pages or in the plan. Ask for it before you buy a welcome kit.
  • Slow growth. Sales grew 2% in Q2 2026, and guidance was cut.
  • Mixed messages on pay. The share page and the plan show different top commission rates.
  • The 2009 SEC case. Old and settled, but part of the record.
  • The Consultant path costs money. A welcome kit is required.

Product Alternatives

If you like a product but don't want to join, you don't need to. When I checked Nature's Sunshine's Liquid Chlorophyll page on October 14, 2026, the 16 oz Extra Strength bottle was $29.95, on sale for $24.95. Other brands sell liquid chlorophyll for less:

Amazon prices are what the listings showed on October 14, 2026. The two chlorophyll products have different strengths, so compare the labels. I haven't tested them side by side. This is a price comparison, not a lab test.

My Verdict: Is Nature's Sunshine Worth Joining in 2026?

One More Thing...

Nature's Sunshine's 2026 plan lets you earn on customers without recruiting anyone. That's the right direction.

But it also means your success depends on reaching people who want what you sell. Most people run out of warm contacts fast. The ones who last learn to reach strangers online who are already looking.
