Amsoil Review (2026): Is an Amsoil Dealership Worth It?

Ask a car guy about Amsoil and you'll get an opinion about the oil. Ask him about the Dealer program and you'll usually get a shrug.
That's the part this review covers. I don't test motor oil, so I won't tell you whether Amsoil protects your engine better than anything else. What I can tell you is how the Amsoil Dealer program works, what it costs, and what Amsoil's own 2025 income disclosure says Dealers earn.
Quick answer: Amsoil is a synthetic oil company in Superior, Wisconsin, founded in 1969. It sells through independent Dealers who pay $100 a year. In 2025, 88.2% of its active Dealers earned under $1,000, and the company itself says a Dealership "may not be the best option" for some people.
I've been inside 8 network marketing companies since 2004, and I always start with the company's own words. For Amsoil, I read its join, compensation and Preferred Customer pages, its 2025 income disclosure, its Dealer newsletter, and its company history. You can browse every company I've reviewed on one page.
What Is Amsoil?
Amsoil makes synthetic lubricants, including motor oil and grease, plus oil filters and fuel additives.

Amsoil says that in 1972 it introduced AMSOIL 10W-40 Synthetic Motor Oil, and it lists "API-rated 100% synthetic motor oil" among its industry firsts. You can compare Amsoil with other companies in the full MLM company directory.
Who's Behind Amsoil?
Al Amatuzio started the company while serving as a squadron commander in the Duluth, Minnesota Air National Guard. According to Wikipedia, "due to widespread unawareness of synthetic motor oil and consequent slow sales," he started the Amsoil Dealer network in 1973. In 1994 he was inducted into the Lubricants World Hall of Fame, per Amsoil.
Today his son, Alan Amatuzio, is Chairman and CEO, and Bhadresh Sutaria is President. So Amsoil is still led by the founding family more than 50 years in. If you want other long-running companies to compare, read my Amway review or my Nature's Sunshine review, a supplement company founded in 1972.
What Amsoil Sells (and Why It's Hard to Buy)
The flagship is Signature Series synthetic motor oil. When I checked on October 14, 2026, a quart of Signature Series 5W-30 was $17.99 at retail, or $13.99 at the member price.
People often ask why Amsoil is hard to find in stores. The short answer is the business model: since 1973, Amsoil has sold mainly through Dealers, not auto-parts chains. You can buy from a Dealer, buy on amsoil.com, or become a Preferred Customer:
- $10 for a six-month trial, or $20 for a full year
- "Save up to 25% on every order"
- Free shipping on orders over $100
Is Amsoil an MLM?
Yes, in structure. Dealers earn on their own sales and on their team's total monthly sales through Profit Tiers. That's a multi-level plan.
But Amsoil is unusual in one way: its income disclosure says "No money is earned for recruiting others to become Dealers." You earn on product sold, by you and by your team.
How the Amsoil Dealer Program Pays
The cost:
- "The Dealer fee is $100 USD ($130 CAD)," paid every year
- Amsoil raised the fee on July 1, 2025. It said "We have not increased the Dealer fee since 2017"
- Amsoil lists "No Quotas" and "No Inventory Requirements"
Profit Tiers, based on total monthly team sales (US wholesale value):
| Profit Tier | Minimum Total Monthly Team Sales |
|---|---|
| Tier 1 | none |
| Tier 2 | $1,500 |
| Tier 3 | $3,000 |
| Tier 4 | $5,000 |
You need at least $500 in personal sales to qualify for Tiers 2, 3 or 4, and you "must be Customer Certified to earn Tier 4 profits."
Customer Certification: you complete the training and register at least two qualified new customers in 12 months. To keep it, the requirement rises to four or more new qualified customers every 12 months once you've been a Dealer for 24 months.
What Amsoil Dealers Actually Earn
Amsoil publishes an income disclosure every year. From the 2025 edition:
- About 70.4% of registered Dealers were active (Amsoil defines active as earning some commission in at least one month)
- The average annual income for active Dealers was $2,032
- 88.2% of active Dealers earned under $1,000, averaging $100
- About 5.9% of active Dealers were Customer Certified, and they averaged $25,211
That's a clear picture. A small group of Dealers who keep signing up customers makes real money. Most Dealers are mainly buying oil at a discount.
The Company's Own Warning
Here's the part I didn't expect. When Amsoil raised the Dealer fee in 2025, its Dealer newsletter said "a $100 annual fee may mean an AMSOIL Dealership is not the best option for you."
It even gave an example: "In the past 12 months, this Dealer spent $784 on products and shipping and earned $7." For that person, Amsoil said, a Preferred Customer membership would have saved money. For a limited time, Dealers who bought $500 or more in the past year could renew as a Preferred Customer for free.
That's honest, and I respect it.
Is Amsoil a Pyramid Scheme?
No. There's a real product people buy for their vehicles, no pay for recruiting, a $100 fee instead of a big starter kit, and a published income disclosure. The one thing to watch is the same as with any MLM: whether you'd actually sell to customers, or just buy for yourself.

The company has a large, active audience, mostly on Instagram and YouTube. For Dealers, there's plenty of company content to share.
The Good: What Amsoil Gets Right
- Cheap to start. $100 a year, no kit, no quotas, no inventory.
- No pay for recruiting. You earn on product sales only.
- Radical honesty about fit. The company told Dealers in writing when a Dealership isn't worth it.
- A published income disclosure. Real numbers, every year.
- A long, stable history. Founded in 1969 and still run by the founding family.
The Concerns: What You Need to Know
- Most Dealers earn very little. 88.2% of active Dealers made under $1,000 in 2025.
- Certification never stops. Tier 4 needs four new qualified customers every year once you're past two years.
- The fee went up. $100 a year means a Dealer who only buys for themselves can lose money compared with a Preferred Customer membership.
- I can't judge the oil. I don't test lubricants, and the oil debates online are far outside what this review covers.
Product Alternatives
If you just want good synthetic oil for your car, you don't need a Dealership. When I checked Amsoil's Signature Series 5W-30 page on October 14, 2026, a quart was $17.99 at retail and $13.99 at the member price. That's $89.95 for five quarts at retail, or $69.95 at the member price. Big oil brands sell full synthetic 5-quart jugs for less:
| What You Want | Amsoil | Alternative | Why Consider It |
|---|---|---|---|
| A full synthetic 5W-30 oil change | Signature Series 5W-30, 5 quarts: $89.95 retail ($69.95 member) | Valvoline Extended Protection 5W-30 Full Synthetic, 5 Quart | $33.97 |
| A full synthetic 5W-30 for a higher-mileage engine | Signature Series 5W-30, 5 quarts: $89.95 retail ($69.95 member) | Mobil 1 Extended Performance High Mileage 5W-30, 5 Quart | $35.97 |
Amazon prices are what the listings showed on October 14, 2026. Always use the viscosity and spec your owner's manual calls for. I haven't tested these oils side by side, so I can't tell you one protects your engine better than another. This is a price comparison, not a lab test.
My Verdict: Is an Amsoil Dealership Worth It in 2026?
One More Thing...
The Dealers who do well with Amsoil are the ones who keep finding new customers every year. Not new Dealers. Customers.
That's exactly where most people get stuck: once your friends and coworkers have their oil, who's next? The answer is learning to reach people online who are already looking for what you sell. That's true for oil, and for anything else.
